Clinical research with our tablet. The NYU Langone research featured here evaluated ORC-144, Orcosa’s investigational cannabidiol tablet (formerly referred to as ORAVEXX). Working with researchers at Baptist Health, the team studied its use after rotator cuff repair and followed patients’ longer-term recovery.

Early postoperative pain after rotator cuff repair
Alaia and colleagues reported a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in adults aged 18–75, with 99 patients included in the published analysis. ORC-144 or placebo was added to standard postoperative care, including access to rescue medication.
What was observed
Patients receiving ORC-144 reported approximately 23% less pain on the first day after surgery and 22–25% greater satisfaction with pain control on the first two days, compared with placebo. No major side effects were reported.
Study context
This landmark double-blind, placebo-controlled trial demonstrated that Orcosa’s CBD tablet could reduce acute postoperative pain. The findings provide clinical evidence for ORC-144’s potential as a new non-opioid approach to pain management.

Longer-term shoulder outcomes
A follow-up publication examined recovery at least one year after surgery in patients from the original trial. Eighty-two patients were included in the analysis.
No significant differences were found between the ORC-144 and placebo groups in pain, shoulder function, satisfaction, or reoperation rates.
Study context
These findings provide further reassurance that short-term ORC-144 treatment did not compromise postoperative recovery. They add to the clinical evidence supporting its continued development as a potentially safe option for acute postoperative pain.
