Orcosa secures U.S. patent supporting ORC-144 development

U.S. Patent No. 11,672,761 marks an important milestone for Orcosa’s proprietary CBD tablet and its development for acute pain.

Orcosa announced the grant of U.S. Patent No. 11,672,761, an important intellectual property milestone supporting ORC-144, the company’s investigational cannabidiol (CBD) tablet. The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued the patent on June 13, 2023.

The patent includes claims directed to specified rapidly disintegrating CBD compositions and methods of treating pain through administration to the buccal mucosa, the tissue inside the cheek. The granted claims also address formulation characteristics and dosing regimens. Together, these claims provide protection for defined aspects of Orcosa’s approach to developing ORC-144.

ORC-144 uses the company’s proprietary RITe™ Platform and is being developed for acute pain. Its tablet format brings Orcosa’s formulation and delivery technology to a potential new treatment option. Clinical research with ORC-144, including the randomized study conducted by NYU Langone investigators following rotator cuff repair, forms part of that development effort.

This was Orcosa’s first granted patent associated with the RITe™ Platform. At the time of the announcement, the company had also filed additional applications in the United States and other markets as part of its broader intellectual property strategy.

The grant represented a step forward in protecting the company’s inventions as Orcosa advanced its own medicines. ORC-144 is investigational and has not been approved by the FDA.
